Windsor/Smith Sunriver Rental Home
Area Attractions
The Sunriver/Bend area is full of wonderful activites for the whole family. We have compiled a list of some of the great things you'll find to do in the area:
| Golfing | World class golfing is available in Sunriver, and several more top courses are located in Bend. |
| Fishing | Numerous lakes and rivers are within short driving distance of Sunriver. Fly fish on the Deschutes, catch Rainbow trout on Paulina Lake or even angle for Wide-mouthed Bass on Crane Prairie Reservoir. |
| Horsebackriding | Sunriver Stables offers a variety of trail rides for riders of all experience levels. |
| Hiking | Central Oregon is a hiker's dream. Be sure to check out Benham Falls or the Green River Trail up by Mt Bachelor. |
| Rock climbing | Smith Rock is only an hour away -- climbing doesn't get much better. |
| Biking | Sunriver is a natural place for bikers, with miles and miles of trails through the resort. But there are also opportunities for mountain biking all around, and one tour outfitter even offers the Paulina Plunge, a guided tour with lunch and bikes provided, that visits seven waterfalls and even a natural water slide. |
| Rafting | The Deschutes is home to great rafting, kayaking and canoeing. Sunriver offers tours of all types on this beautiful river. |
| Spelunking | Central Oregon is home to numerous caves and underground lava tubes. The Lava Cast Forest, Arnold Ice Cave and the caves in Christmas Valley are good places to start. |
| Museums | The Oregon High Desert Museum is a must-see with kids. Featuring native wildlife and exhibits on early life in Central Oregon, this museum offers many hands on activities that are perfect for a rainy day. Besides, they have porcupines! How cool is that? Down the road a bit is the Lava Lands Visitor Center. Here you can explore a large lava flow and even take a bus to the top of a giant cinder cone. |
| Shopping | Downtown Bend offers a variety of boutiques and interesting shops for the serious shopper. The Sunriver mall also has a collection of galleries and clothing stores that are worth checking out. Don't miss Goody's Soda Fountain and Candy Store for an old fashioned ice cream treat. |
| Skiing | It goes without saying, but if you are in Bend in the winter, you are probably there to ski at Mt Bachelor. This world class ski resort also has outstanding cross country skiing. |
| Snowmobiling | Several operators offer guided tours and snowmobile rentals. We've never tried one, but we want to soon! |
| Ice Skating | Sunriver has a winter icerink located in the mall. This is a great activity for the family. |
| Eating | You can enjoy eating any time of the year, but somehow, winter just seems like the best time to enjoy some of Bend's finest restaurants. The Pine Tavern is a sentimental favorite (be sure to make reservations on the weekend) and the Deschutes River Brewery is a must see if you love Black Butte Porter beer. (The beer tastes even better here -- it's incredible!) |
